Martin Luther On The Jews and Their Lies – YouTube

One of the most fervent Dutch Christian Zionists is Dirk van Genderen. He has an extreme fondness for Israel, so he regularly writes and publishes articles about Israel. One of them was published on Friday, March 3, 2017. Its title: “Whoever despises Jews is already cursing them.” Here is a part of its content:

“In the book of Genesis, God made an everlasting covenant with Abraham and his descendants, unconditional. God said, ‘I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse.’ [Genesis 12:3]

It’s helpful to consider the Hebrew, where two different words are used for ‘curse’ in this verse. The first time, in the phrase, ‘whoever curses you,’ the word ‘m’kalelcha’ is used. The second time, in the phrase, ‘I will curse’, the word ‘arar’ is used.

The first time we encounter ‘arar’ in the Bible is when God curses the serpent in the Garden of Eden [Genesis 3:14]. The word m’kalelcha comes from the root kalal and means to blaspheme, to treat with contempt, to despise, to treat inferiorly.

Who are the descendants of Abraham? That is literally the Jewish people. He was the patriarch, the progenitor. But Abraham is also the father of all believers.

Therefore, the [physical] descendants of Abraham are already being cursed when the Jewish people are treated with contempt. I believe you can add that when the spiritual descendants of Abraham, the faithful Christians, are treated badly, there is also a curse.

As we have already seen, antisemitism is not only hatred and violence against the Jewish people, but it is also contempt for Jews, ridiculing them. God pronounces a curse on those who treat the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob with contempt, whether we do so ourselves, as a church, as a country, through politicians, or as a terrorist organization.”

[After which Van Genderen gives a whole speech about Haman, the ‘Jew-hater.’] He wrote the following about this story: “This history is a warning against all who turn against Israel!” A little further on, he continues:

“But I also think of all theologians who turn against Israel and the Jewish people. Anyone with the Bible in hand claims that Israel is finished, that there is no future for the Jewish people, and that the church has replaced Israel, cursing Israel, in the aforementioned sense of kalal.

Many churches, many Christians, have over the centuries failed to grasp the meaning of the words in Ephesians 2:14-16:

‘For he is our peace who has made both one. And having broken down the middlewall of separation, he abolished in his flesh the enmity – the law of commandments contained in ordinances – so that he might create in himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that he might reconcile both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.”

Believers from the Jews and believers from the Gentiles have become one in Christ. And Gentile believers have no right whatsoever to write off and condemn Jews who do not believe in the Lord Jesus. That has happened in the past, too often. It also happens today. And that, however harsh it might be, is ‘cursing the descendants of Abraham.

Let us not curse Israel, the Jewish people, but bless them. Show God’s love to them, and do not remain silent about them and our Messiah, the Lord Jesus, who also wants to save them. And in this week of Purim, let us be alert to antisemitism. Don’t hesitate to address people who speak negatively about Israel or the Jewish people, even if it’s in your church or congregation. ‘Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.’ ‘Speak kindly to Jerusalem…’ [Isaiah 40:1] Dirk van Genderen, with thanks to Messianic Bible.” Source: https://dirkvangenderen.nl/2027/03/03/wie-joden-minacht-vervloekt-hen-al/ [emphasis added.]

Emphasis On ‘Ridicule’.

What should be emphasized here is not the violence against the Jews, but the  ‘ridiculing’ of them. This alone, Van Genderen argued, would amount to ‘cursing’. Furthermore, his article reveals that he refuses to accept even the slightest criticism of Israel and the Jewish people. Therefore, they should only be discussed positively and kindly.

The Great Reformer Martin Luther: A ‘Christian Antisemite.’

Within Protestant Christianity, Martin Luther [the renowned reformer of the 1500s] is considered the greatest advocate of the biblical Christian faith. He thus ensured that many Christians were freed from the strong grip the Catholic Church had on them. However, according to Christian Zionists [and especially Jews], Luther also had a dark side: he was also a ‘Christian anti-Semite’. This was because he expressed himself furiously and angrily about the Jews in his own time. Luther had previously been friendly toward the Jews, but after they refused to convert to Christianity, he became ‘anti-Semitic’ according to them. In reality, however, there was much more going on. In his video below, Peter Bolan explains what neither the church [and certainly not the Jews] wanted to explain.
