It should be noted that, although the Jews in the time of Christ and his apostles [the period apparently referred to] were not guilty of such idolatry as that mentioned above, because they displayed the same spirit of rebellion, depravity, and hostility towards God, he threatened to put them to death as criminals. With the total destruction of Jerusalem, its temple [and Israel] by the Roman armies in 70 AD, the Levitical priesthood came to an end forever, never to be reinstituted. The Old Mosaic Covenant was over for good. From this emerged the ‘New Israel’ [the Christian Church], and the New Covenant.
Later on, however. Jerusalem was rebuilt by the Roman Emperor Hadrian and further developed by Suleiman the Magnificent. This Jerusalem, however, is a ‘satanic counterfeit’ according to Dr. Chuck Baldwin. He is entirely right, and we agree with him!
